Astro joins Cloudflare

Astro Technology Company, creators of the Astro web design, are partnering with Cloudflare.

Astro is a web framework for building fast, content-driven websites. Over the past few years, we’ve seen a wide variety of developers and companies use Astro to build their networks. This ranges from established brands like Porsche and IKEA, to fast-growing AI companies like Opencode and OpenAI. Platforms built on Cloudflare, such as Webflow Cloud and Wix Vibehave chosen Astro to power the websites their customers build and run on their platforms. At Cloudflare, we use Astro, too – for us development documents, website, landing pages, blogand others. Astro is used almost everywhere on the Internet.

By joining the Astro team, we’ve doubled down on making Astro the best content-driven website design for years to come. The best version of Astro – Astro 6 – is just around the corner, bringing an updated update server powered by Vite. The first public beta release of Astro 6 is available nowand GA coming up in the coming weeks.

We’re excited to share this news and even more excited about what it means for developers who build with Astro. If you haven’t tried Astro – give it a spin and run npm create astro@ latest.

What it means in Astro

Astro will remain open source, licensed by MIT, and open to contributions, with a public map and open governance. All full-time employees of The Astro Technology Company are now Cloudflare employees, and will continue to work for Astro. We are committed to Astro’s long-term success and look forward to continuing to build.

Astro would not be what it is today without a very strong community of open source contributors. Cloudflare is also committed to continuing to support open source contributions, by Astro Ecosystem Fundalong with industry partners including Webflow, Netlify, Wix, Sentry, Stainless and many more.

From day one, Astro has been a bet on the web and accessibility: Astro is designed to work anywhere, in the cloud and on the planet. Nothing changes about that. You can run Astro on any platform or cloud, and we’re committed to supporting Astro developers everywhere.

There are so many network architectures out there – so why do developers choose Astro?

Astro is growing fast:

Why? Many web agencies have come and gone trying to be all things to all people, aiming to serve the needs of content-driven websites and web applications.

Key to Astro’s success: Instead of trying to serve every use case, Astro has stayed focused on it five principles of design. Astro is…

  • Related content: Astro is designed to present your content.

  • First server: Websites run faster when they serve HTML to the server.

  • In a hurry: It is impossible to build a slow website on Astro.

  • User friendly: You don’t need to be an expert to build something with Astro.

  • Focused on Producer: You should have the tools you need to be successful.

Of Astro Islands of Architecture it’s a key part of what makes all of this possible. Most of every page can be fast, static HTML – fast and easy to build automatically, focused on content delivery. And if you need to, you can render a part of the page as a client island, using any client UI framework. You can mix and match multiple layouts on a single page, whether it’s React.js, Vue, Svelte, Solid, or whatever:

Bringing back the joy of building websites

As Astro and Cloudflare started talking, it became more and more clear how much we have in common. Cloudflare’s mission is to help build a better Internet – and part of that is to help build Fast Internet. Almost all of us grew up building websites, and we want a world where people have fun building things online, where anyone can publish their own site.

When Astro first be initiated in 2021, it was a pain to build good websites – it felt like a battle with building tools and designs. It sounds strange to say it, with the coding agents and powerful LLMs of 2026, but in 2021 it was very difficult to builda good and fast website without being a domain expert in JavaScript build tooling. There are so many improvements, thanks to Astro and the wider ecosystem, that we take this for granted today.

The Astro Project has spent the past five years working to simplify internet development. Like LLMs, then vibe coding, and now the real coding agents have come along and made it possible for anyone to build – Astro provided a foundation that was infinitely easier and faster. We’ve all seen how much better and faster attorneys get when they build the right foundation, within a well-organized codebase. Even more, we’ve seen builders and platforms choose Astro as that foundation.

We’ve seen this clearly with the platforms that Cloudflare and Astro serve, which extend Cloudflare to their customers in innovative ways. Cloudflare for Platformsand they have chosen Astro as the framework on which their clients build.

When you move to Webflow CloudYour Astro website only works and is used on Cloudflare’s network. When you start a new project with Wix Vibebehind the scenes you create an Astro site, which runs on Cloudflare. And when you create a document website you use Stainlesswhich presents the Astro project, powered by Cloudflare, run by Starlight – built-in Astro design.

Each of these platforms is designed for a different audience. But what they have in common – apart from their use of Cloudflare and Astro – is that they do it fun creating and publishing content on the Internet. In a world where everyone can be a builder and creator of content, we think there are still many more platforms to build and people to reach.

Live News Links on Astro are also fixed on Astro 6 and out of beta. These news collections allow you to update data in real time, without requiring your website to be rebuilt. This makes it easy to deliver frequently changing content, such as the current inventory in a grocery store, while benefiting from the built-in authentication and caching that comes with Astro’s built-in support for. news collections.

There’s more in Astro 6, including the application of Astro’s most improved feature – state-of-the-art support for Content Protection Policy (CSP) – as well as simpler APIs, improvements to Zod 4, and more.

We are excited to welcome the Astro team to Cloudflare. We’re excited to keep building, keep shipping, and keep making Astro the best way to build content-driven sites. We’re already thinking about what’s next for V6, and we’d love to hear from you.
