On January 23, 2025, ECT-05 prepares to depart to conduct a training mission at the National Training Center at Fort Irwin.
WATCH THE BEAUTIFUL
FORT GORDON, Ga. – The US Army Cyber Command is continuing an ambitious multi-year project to use artificial intelligence throughout its digital battlefield, with the aim of strengthening cybersecurity, accelerating analysis and empowering its Soldiers.
During the year 2023, Lt. Gen. Maria B. Barrett made a change by ordering the use of automation and AI – not for innovation, but to make missions more effective, smarter decisions and more time available for the people behind the screens.
“AI is not a luxury – it’s a necessity. Our mission requires speed, accuracy, and adaptability, and artificial intelligence is a powerful enabler of all three,” Barrett stressed. Since then, ARCYBER has created a strategic roadmap focused on the AI-human class, with key steps moving from implementation to autonomous digital agents by 2033.
The initial results are already changing the way the military fights and defends itself in cyberspace.
PANOPTIC JUNCTION, an AI-driven continuous assessment platform designed to learn how systems are built, identify their vulnerable areas by analyzing architecture and threat intelligence, and then automatically deploy monitoring tools to monitor those specific areas. In its prototype phase, it achieved an impressive 87% detection rate. ARCYBER is now implementing a 12-month production pilot to accelerate its adoption.
GOSTCREW equips red team personnel with AI simulations to predict attack paths and recommend mission actions. By combining human and machine expertise, the app allows low-level users to benefit from the knowledge of seasoned veterans.
To improve the depth of the analysis, the Analytic Superiority Task Force used AI tools from the Cyberfront This achievement would have avoided the old analysis methods, taking days instead of minutes to analyze the data.
ARCYBER is not only focused on project execution. Projects such as STORMYARCHER, an AI assistant assistant, and QUESCRIBE, an automated document reviewer, demonstrate the mandate’s goal of simplifying the support process and enhancing development capabilities. Despite initial setbacks, the teams learned valuable lessons about infrastructure and operations, which led to the development of custom-made solutions that effectively meet operational requirements.
In the social media space, QUESCRIBE’s impact is already being felt. “QUESTION, even in its testing phase, has proven to be a game changer,” said Maj. Lindsay D. Roman, director of public affairs for ARCYBER. “It has dramatically improved our review process, eliminating time-consuming tasks and allowing my team and other stakeholders to focus on the efforts ahead – from crisis communicationsto strategic messaging.
Meanwhile, the AI User Group below puts tools like Ask Sage and CAMOGPT into the hands of Soldiers and civilians, encouraging everyday innovation and creativity.
The backbone of these efforts is a strong governance framework. The AI Board of Directors ensures ethical balance, compliance and efficient deployment of capabilities. Its focus began with QUESCRIBE, emphasizing transparency and user education from the start.
Looking ahead, ARCYBER is targeting the following types of pilots:
- PIXIEMIRROR, will use AI to compare threat signals identified in anonymous data sources.
- The AI-driven workflow is designed to deliver the right job to the right professional with minimal delay.
- NETCOM’s Unified Network Operations Dashboard consolidates network data into a single decision-making interface.
ARCYBER’s adoption of AI isn’t a leap — it’s a trend. By combining machine intelligence with human intelligence, ARCYBER builds an a.
“Machine Intelligence will be a decisive advantage in the future of decision-making, management and productivity – our job is to make sure that every algorithm responds to the purpose, not just what is possible,” said Mark A. “Al” Mollenkopf, scientific advisor and chief analytics officer for ARCYBER.
That principle may be the command’s most important asset.
